LEADERS is made up of former campers, ages 16 and over, who participate in volunteerism, leadership, life and educational skills and citizenship activities. Under the direction of of Kapri Donaldson, LEADERS Coordinator, LEADERS experience skills like communicating with others, and team building and building relationships which the former campers use in school, the community, their family and/or in the workplace. Presentations by local community volunteers help participants become aware of relevant issues like bullying, hazing, social networking (including the dangers) and more. LEADERS take ownership of this successful program by facilitating some programs and activities as well as planning topics about which they are interested, and volunteer and social activities. Former camper co-facilitators plan many fun icebreakers/getting to know each other activities. Youth and young adults have developed long-lasting, memorable special friendships.
LEADERS’ groups convene 4 times a year to network, have a meal, volunteer at a diverse variety of places and take part in relevant learning sessions.
Past programs include:
Developed and planned by Eydee Schultz, 24 former campers and 3 adult role models, in November 2010, the LEADERS program has been extremely effective at keeping the values that were taught to these young people when they were children at Camp Care-A-Lot. Values include setting goals and taking steps to reach their goals. Participants have gained self-confidence; many have said that they stayed in high school and have gone on to college because of their participation in this program.
LEADERS’ events rely on adult volunteers to assist in its facilitation. This is not a long-term volunteer commitment. You may volunteer one time or more:
